Learning in Concert
Bringing the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra’s musicians and teaching artists into SouthCoast elementary schools since 2013.
Since 2013, Concerts at the Point has underwritten the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra’s “Learning in Concert” program in the Tiverton, Westport, and Fall River elementary schools. The program focuses every year on a different fundamental concept that is shared by classical music and other subjects in the school curriculum. Concepts in past years include Symmetry, Contrast, Adaptation, Gravity, and Balance.
The “Learning in Concert” program is designed as a three-phase curriculum that spans an entire school year. It begins with an in-school assembly concert, followed by classroom lessons taught by the NBSO Education Director along with classroom teachers. The third phase is the culminating event, at which students’ year-long creative work and collaborations are featured and performed at the annual Young People’s Concert held at the splendid newly renovated Zeiterion Theater.
